The Stand Up by John Godber

This is a screenplay written by the legendary theatre playwright John Godber with some high profile British names penciled for leading roles - we are currently searching for finance to bring this project to the screen.

John Godber is a living theatrical legend and ranks as one of the worlds most influential playwrights of all time- although known for his stage work he has had his plays translated for the big screen in the past but this is a comedy drama specifically written for the screen - see synopsis below.

Synopsis

  • Whats it all about!

The story follows a middle aged collage lecturer, his hope to escape from obscurity by having a screenplay made, his relationship with his ex-wife and children, his mistress and film agent along with his elderly parents. We witness his eventual breakdown during a cathartic rant on an open mic spot at a local comedy club in front of a packed house. During the performance we see flash backs to a memorable trip to Whitby with all the pathos and comic talent you could expect from Godber as our hero endures an insane weekend with his parents. So far we have interest from star names including Maureen Lipman, Mark Addy, Joss Stone, Billy Pearce and Peter Purves.
